All of these presenters will provide instruction or legal guidance for the creation of the zines as well as dissemination practices in the community. There will also be creative arts staff or volunteers along with a reference staff person to assist in the program event’s days. Finally, there will be the patrons or community members.
And as we move ahead to the next slide
When will it happen and Why is it happening?
The When is starting Thursday January 16th at 6:30 PM to 8 PM. It will be held the same time every third thursday of the month. For the “why” It is important to note that in order to receive a benefit from a law, members of the community often have to know about the benefits that laws afford. Many tenants in the community don’t know their rights and this results in loss of dwelling or home for many. The LA Law Library offers events on this topic already and a Zine making workshop can further pass on an advocacy medium and informational medium to outreach to the community. The LA Law Library wants to supply the community with the necessary knowledge and skills to help them stay in their homes legally. The goal is to help mitigate some of the community crisis by tenants not knowing and landlords not recognizing tenants rights. By offering this zine making workshop the hope is that community members will feel more knowledgable about and thus more confident in defending their rights.
